Waffle House recently revealed that all of their eggs now come with an additional fee. The eatery claims that the ongoing egg shortage has forced it to make a tough choice.
According to CNN, a dozen eggs cost $4.15 in December 2024. That’s the approaching COVID pandemic pricing, which saw a sharp drop in 2023. According to a graph on the website, for the majority of the previous 15 years, the price of eggs has been in the range of $1.50 to $2.25.
The avian flu is the cause of all of this.

Since the emergence of the current strain of bird flu in 2022, almost 140 million hens have been killed. Although individuals should refrain from eating raw eggs, experts warn PBS that the virus does not now pose a serious threat to humans.
It may take 26 weeks for a hen to get large enough to start laying eggs, and once the virus is in a flock, the entire flock must be slaughtered. According to these analysts, costs may increase by an additional 20% this year.
