Requests for food deliveries have increased around the tri-state as families are still cooped up in the wake of Winter Storm Blair.

When you’re stuck in your driveway or your house loses electricity during a severe winter storm, it might be difficult to get a hot dinner. Grubhub, UberEats, and other applications are useful in this situation. On Monday, January 6, 2025, some wonderful people I know who work for Domino’s in Southern Indiana were out and about delivering pizzas in less than ideal road conditions. These employees went above and above to help bring meals to people in the neighborhood in spite of the difficulties.
Delivering Pizza in a Snowstorm
I understand firsthand what it’s like to drive on those roads during the colder months because I grew up between the Pike and Daviess County lines. I’ll confess, though, that I’ve never had to deliver something under such circumstances. To find out about their experiences during the past 48 hours, I contacted some friends who work at a Domino’s Pizza store in the southern portion of the state. They’ve been keeping themselves occupied, I think.
Stuart Grubbs, General Manager of Domino’s Pizza in Washington, Indiana, stated, “When our customers are unable to leave, especially during a winter mix of snow and ice like what we experienced this weekend, they rely on us here at Domino’s to provide an invaluable service by bringing food to them and their families.” “We definitely see a significant increase in requests for delivery during these occasions.”
Delivery Driver Safety During Winter Conditions
“There are definitely some challenges associated with delivering pies in winter weather,” Grubbs said during our interview. Drivers risk becoming stranded in the weather when road conditions are at their worst, and some might not be able to report for work at all. The business employs an app to track the driving behaviors of individuals who are able to make it in, rewarding those who drive safely.
“Our drivers’ safety is our top priority, and we recognize that leaving their own property can occasionally put them in danger. We have a fantastic team that knows how to work hard every day and go all out during difficult times,” Grubbs remarked.
Customer Stories from Winter Storm Blair
Domino’s strives to deliver food to its patrons in 20 minutes or less, but this isn’t always possible when the roads are slick. Despite minor setbacks, Grubbs observed that over the past few days, customers have been incredibly grateful, sending sincere gratitude and praises.
“Seeing how grateful our consumers are when they learn that we are available and will deliver is a fantastic motivator. Yesterday we had a person who called us ‘legends!’ Most of our clients are completely cognizant of the additional time required,” he stated.
I urge you to give a big thank you and, if you can, a nice tip to any delivery person you encounter, whether they are from FedEx, UPS, UberEats, Grubhub, or even a pizza delivery guy. Spreading a little kindness at a time when people need it most is, after all, the best way to start the new year.
