A panel of local animal advocates, including representatives from It Takes a Village, PAAWS, the Vanderburgh Humane Society, and Animal Care & Control, will participate in the conversation. These groups have been putting in a lot of effort to solve the problem of overcrowded shelters across the country, and now they are joining together to show how Evansville is taking action to address it directly.

Recently, we saw both the challenges faced by our local animal shelters as well as the great work they are able to do together when our Animal Control officers had to pull more than 50 dogs from a single home. But that doesn t change the fact that we need to address the issue of animal overpopulation in our city. I called this town hall meeting so that our animal shelters, their supporters, and our citizens may all have a voice in how we can move forward to address this critical, national issue on a local level. ~Mayor Terry

Attending this Town Hall will provide an opportunity to learn about the innovative solutions these organizations are putting into practice, ranging from spay-and-neuter campaigns to fostering programs. Additionally, there will be a Q&A session where you can participate in the discussion since your voice counts.

Animal overpopulation is a national problem, not simply a local one. But if we band together, we can actually make a difference in Evansville. Let’s demonstrate to our animal friends how much this community values them by packing the room on January 15.
