Even the most devoted fans were in a panic after Yellowstone’s penultimate episode. The passing of John Dutton has no bearing on Taylor Sheridan’s choice to become the lead in Season 5, Episode 13.
At the risk of angering the all-powerful Google gods, some people used a four-letter word that we can’t use to describe the extracurricular activities and unnecessary horsemanship.
Sheridan’s selections for his own character, Travis, were described by Vulture using yet another graphic adjective.
To gauge the media’s reaction to Taylor Sheridan’s character’s most significant episode to yet, search for his name on Google on Monday, December 9. Fans had ideas, too.
Was it excessive to have supermodel Bella Hadid portray his girlfriend and then have her and Beth Dutton, a notoriously unforgiving woman, spend thirty-five seconds admiring his riding skills?
Maybe.
Although it was a flex, I’ll be the first to assert that Taylor Sheridan is deserving of one.

In order to fully understand what Episode 13 was about, zoom out from Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch: It was the pre-wedding rehearsal dinner, where all the essential people get together in a less formal setting to receive their bouquets.
Characters that we hadn’t considered over the entire season (or longer!) arrived to pick up a paycheck and say a few words. On-screen lover Walker (real-life spouse Ryan Bingham) was kissed by Laramie (Hassie Harrison). Emily (Kathryn Kelly), Jimmy’s wife, put up with the ranch staff.
Wendy Muniz’s character, former governor Lynelle Perry, appeared for an anecdote. Christina (Katherine Cunningham), the mother of Jamie Dutton’s infant, made a big impression.
I brought up Hadid, but did you also see her riding a horse with her lover in real life, Adan Banuelos? He was accompanied by a number of other rodeo stars. As evidenced by the return of trail wagon cook Charlie Ferguson, Sheridan loves nothing more than to cast real stars in supporting roles.
This episode spilled over musically. In addition to Brothers Osborne, Jackson Dean, Sam Barber, Ward Davis, and Hayes Carll, Turnpike Troubadours performed a number of songs from the stage.
“You get a part, you get a part and you get a part!” was the final opportunity for the show’s creator to portray Oprah.
In addition, Sheridan enjoys recasting actors from other series he has produced. Look at Dawn Olivieri (Sarah Atwood) and Dave Annable (Lee Dutton), who are already working on Lioness. James Jordan’s character, Agent Hendon, has appeared in almost all of Sheridan’s works. The number of these cases has only increased since we completed a comprehensive list of them in 2022.
Travis (Sheridan) dominated the first twenty-five minutes of Episode 13. There are not one, but two strip poker sequences in addition to his rodeo behavior. In the second, Beth, who lost a hand to the naked horse trainer, consents to undress.
No, that is very out of character for her, but before you become too upset, think about this.
The YellowstoneTo get here, Sheridan had to overcome several obstacles. There was a pandemic and a ridiculous streaming agreement that put the show on a competitor’s platform. Then came a very tumultuous political environment, two Hollywood strikes, and the lead star’s departure halfway through Season 5.

Although Yellowstone’s fifth season hasn’t been flawless, Taylor Sheridan managed to land the plane. I’ll let him pound his own chest a couple of times on the way out the door.
