Carrie Underwood Stuns CMA Awards With a Gorgeous Cody Johnson Duet

For the first time in two years, Carrie Underwood took the stage at the CMA Awards, startling both the live and television audiences by joining Cody Johnson in the song “I’m Gonna Love You.”

Johnson and a piano began the song. Then, as Underwood started without warning, he gave the crowd a knowing smirk.

The previous Entertainer of the Year winner, dressed in an all-white gown and a brown leather corset, delivered a subtle vocal as stunning as it sounds on Johnson’s new deluxe edition of his Leather record.

“So good that it almost hurts / Steady and true as a Bible verse / My heart skips just thinking of you / Go on and bet it all baby we can t lose,”they sing at the chorus.

“Earth s gonna shake every now and then / Some runaway roads are gonna dead end / And on those days when the world feels cruel / I m gonna love you.”

Fans assumed Underwood would skip this concert because she wasn’t listed as a planned performer and was, for the first time ever, not nominated for a CMA Award.

Minutes before her performance, rumors started to spread on social media, but there was no visual proof that she would be performing with Johnson or anybody else.

This was scarcely a battle between the two vocalists, who are regarded as some of the best in the genre. Actually, the feelings of this wonderful love song are enhanced by their harmonies. Neither is able to soar as high as they can.

One of Johnson’s five 2024 CMA nominations is for Male Vocalist of the Year. He stated earlier in the week on Taste of Country that one of his goals is to win Entertainer of the Year.
