This one might make you tense if you’re feeling nauseous.
After a needle was found within her after giving birth eighteen years ago, a woman in Thailand is now receiving the appropriate medical care.
A nurse unintentionally inserted a needle into this mother after she had given birth. The attending physician attempted to physically extract the needle but was unable to do so. The doctor chose to keep the needle in place and seal the wounds because he was afraid of greater blood loss without suturing.
The woman had occasional, acute stomach pain over the ensuing years. An X-ray revealed the needle that was left behind after visiting the emergency department.
In surgery, retrieving the needle was still impossible due to its placement. It moved slowly over the years, requiring constant medical supervision to ensure the needle wasn’t approaching any essential organs. The expense of the weekly hospital visits soon depleted her savings.
Eventually, she made the decision to apply for assistance from the Pavena Foundation for Women and Children. Fortunately, in addition to providing financial support, they have sent a surgical team to remove the needle.
Additionally, the Foundation has arranged for legal counsel to hold the original institution accountable.
