Man Fatally Injured in Fireworks Mishap at South Carolina Independence Day Event

A guy from South Carolina lost his life on Thursday night while attempting to “show off” at a Fourth of July celebration.

A man with serious head injuries was discovered lying on the highway when deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a Summerville neighborhood block party at 10:23 p.m.

According to eyewitnesses, the injuries were caused by a fireworks mishap. Allen Ray McGrew, 41, had set off a massive fireworks display atop his head, according to the coroner’s subsequent findings. According to eyewitnesses, he wore a big top hat and placed the fireworks on top before setting them off. “Massive head injuries” were the result of the device’s explosion.

The authorities at the scene declared McGrew deceased.

A sheriff’s office report states that the victim’s wife informed deputies that she thought he “showed off” at the block party by placing the fireworks on his head. The fireworks went off, and McGrew slumped, despite his family’s attempts to stop him.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are investigating the event.
