The safety of a hospital’s patients is the best indicator of its performance. Twelve hospitals in Illinois were abruptly dropped in a recent ranking, and one received a big fat F for patient safety.
More than a dozen medical facilities in Illinois are not happy with the Fall 2024 patient safety update that Hospital Safety Grade recently released. To determine which Illinois hospitals were safe and which weren’t, they took into account factors including sepsis infection after surgery, MRSA infections, C. diff infections, blood infections, and surgical site examination.
Before I offer this list, I want to make it very clear that you should never use a single internet ranking to determine which Illinois hospital you should trust with your care. Make use of this as a starting point for your own investigation. Since controlling infections can be a life-or-death scenario, I publish this data because you deserve to know if a hospital has experienced problems with it.
