Who’s Ready for Chicago Pizza a Quarter-Mile Above the Ground?

I went to Chicago with my parents when I was seventeen years old. When we visited, Dad’s cousin, her husband, and their family were delighted to tour us about the Windy City. They resided in the Hobart, Indiana, area. Since I was old enough to think, I have always been a fan of skyscrapers, so I was just as excited.

Dad’s cousin Joyce made sure we hit all the high points, literally, by renting a limousine for the occasion. We took a tour of the top level of the Sears Tower, now the Willis Tower, to make up for not going to the John Hancock Center. It was the tallest structure in the US at the time. With the 2014 construction of One World Trade Center and the 2020 addition of Central Park Tower to the New York City skyline, it has fallen to third place.

However, the Willis Tower is still a very popular tourist destination in Chicago despite the name change. The 103rd-floor Skydeck, the world’s highest observation deck, is one of the attractions WITHIN the attraction. And what about that view’s ideal complement? A deep-dish pizza from Giordano’s restaurant. It’s undoubtedly exceptional, but I’m willing to wager that the view enhances its flavor:

We had lunch at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel; I had no idea if there was a restaurant in the Sears Tower at the time of our visit. For heaven’s sake, Dad’s cousin paid.

However, pizza in the sky without flying? Is anyone prepared for “lift-off”?
