As country music lovers, we must keep in mind that although our favorite performers play these songs almost every night, they occasionally forget the lyrics to some of their songs.
Even Keith Urban experiences it.
When Urban was asked what he does when he forgets some of his words while performing live, he was a recent guest on the Jennifer Hudson Show.
He responded to Hudson by turning on the charm and adding, “Every now and then, you have that little glitch,” in typical Urban manner. “In a straight path, honey…” is what I’ll be singing if I’m singing into the microphone.”
At that point, he acts as though there is a problem with his microphone.
Urban will begin to sing the song’s next line, but he will make it sound like his microphone is cutting out. Imagine someone conversing on the phone when they abruptly start cutting out and then immediately return.
This video below made Hudson and the audience laugh a lot:
Urban demonstrated how to shake the microphone cord while pretending to plug it back in. He moves on to the next stanza before anyone notices that something went wrong because he has finished fussing with the cord.
Only a professional like him could execute the move. However, there is a drawback:
“Apparently, I do it so well, that in the middle of the song, my roadie ran out and replaced the microphone completely.”
Therefore, he can’t easily make the same error again in a single show or he’ll be caught.
