Northeast Wisconsin has experienced its fair share of severe weather damage over the last few months.
On May 21, an outbreak of tornadoes swept over the Midwest. The remnants of a short-lived EF-1 tornado produced significant problems for the city of Kaukauna, scattering trees and debris across roadways and yards.
Keshena and Washington Island have also experienced EF-1 tornadoes this season. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported from any of these storms.
The tornado season in Wisconsin got off to a good start.
On February 8, two tornadoes touched down in southern Wisconsin, setting a new record for the first tornadoes in February since records began.
Then, on May 21, 18 tornadoes struck across the state.
A further nine tornadoes were verified during an outbreak on June 22.
This map depicts all of the tornadoes confirmed by the National Weather Service as of July 2.
As you can see, tornado activity is concentrated in the state’s south and west central regions.
Wisconsin sees an average of 23 tornadoes per season FOX11 stated.
So far this year, we’ve seen 39, nearly double the norm.
Tornadoes are most common between April and July, so there’s still roughly a month to go.
Wisconsin saw the most tornadoes in a single year in 2005, with 62.
