The Price Is Right works with a travel business that I’m not familiar with, but they do give away a lot of Maldivian trips to the famous game show. I frequently ponder whether or not the recipients of those excursions have ever heard of it or even know where it is. I don’t mean to belittle anyone’s intelligence, but it’s not like it’s the world’s most famous island nation.

Dale Hollow Lake — the ‘Maldives of Kentucky’
Vacations to this small piece of paradise are now exceedingly expensive, based on those TPI episodes. Go for it if you can swing it. Otherwise, Kentucky provides its own version. This stunning lake is actually referred to as the “Maldives of Kentucky.”Dale Hollow Lake State Park, which is located on the border between Kentucky and Tennessee, is a reasonably close resort that consistently receives positive reviews from guests. Why not? Look at this:
Even though I’m one of those “veg out by the water” sorts, I would have to include that in my agenda if I were visiting Dale Hollow. You can understand why, given the variety of activities offered, including golf, putt-putt, birding, eagle watching (winter is the greatest season, by the way), fishing, hiking, boating, horseback riding, and caving.
Who would have thought that southeastern Kentucky might have a touch of Indian Ocean charm?
