After a gunshot accident last Friday (November 15), Sundance Head is talking about a profound spiritual experience he had while being taken to the hospital.
“On that flight, on that helicopter, I saw the light, man,” he says in a long new interview with ET.
“I really thought I was done.”
- Head was by himself at his ranch in Texas when his gun went off, shooting him in the stomach.
- He was air-lifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas, where doctors worked to stop the bleeding.
- The singer’s wife Misty kept fans informed throughout the near-fatal experience, revealing that the bullet missed all vital organs, instead lodging in the fatty tissue of his stomach.
Head is currently recuperating at home, but he is acutely conscious of his good fortune: He and Misty emphasize in his ET interview that he might have passed away before the ambulance even reached him if the bullet had been angled a centimeter or two differently.
Head had to walk down to a road to attempt to wave down a car for assistance after being shot. At last, an ambulance came to transport him to a nearby hospital for airlift.
The singer kept bleeding during this period. By the time he got to the helicopter, he claims, his feet had whitened and he was “kinda going numb.”
Then he accepted that he was unlikely to live throughout the flight to the hospital.
“I just prayed a lot and I felt super peaceful, because I knew that in my spirit, I had arrived to a spot where I felt super confident that my next walk in the afterlife would be a glorious one,” he says. “It was a weird thing, man, because I had come to terms I knew I wasn’t gonna live past this.”
He talks about how he was astonished to realize how “pointlessly” he believed he was about to die due to a strange accident, and he discusses the things he prayed for in what he thought were his last minutes.
“All I did was pray for my family. All I did was ask the Lord to let me into heaven. “I simply prayed for my children’s prosperity after that,” he says. “I prayed for the [paramedics] that were helping me, that they would be welcomed with prosperity in their lives, no matter what happened to me.”

Head’s most well-known appearance on The Voice occurred during the 2016 season, when he was a member of Team Blake and won.
Although the artist has been mostly out of the public eye for the past few years, he is still working on music and believes that his near-death experience served as a significant turning point in his life that will be reflected in his songs.
Head told ET that even before to this occurrence, he was already making significant adjustments in his life. He made a vow to his mother on her deathbed that he would stop drinking, and two years ago he was sober from alcohol.
Along with his sobriety, he has shed more than 100 pounds.
“I feel like I already got a second opportunity, to live as an adult without a dependency on a chemical,” he says. “I drank alcohol every day of my life, pretty much, since I was very young, so I didn’t know what it was like to live as an adult without the presence of alcohol.”
“I have faith in the will of the Lord. I firmly think that my return to the public eye [after the shooting incident] is in the Lord’s plan,” Head continues. “I’m saying things that people need to hear.”
