Residents of Evansville who are thinking about a career in law enforcement or who want to strengthen their relationship with their local law enforcement personnel will soon have an interesting opportunity. Registration is now available for the Evansville Police Department’s spring Community Academy, formerly known as the Citizen’s Academy, which begins in February.
What is the Evansville Police Department Community Academy?
Anyone who wants to learn more about the different units of the Evansville Police Department and how they keep us safe can attend the Community Academy. For 12 weeks, the FREE class meets every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the CK Newsome Center in Evansville’s downtown.
Each week, representatives from the following units will be available to discuss their units’ duties, how those duties are carried out, and their roles in ensuring that those duties are fulfilled.

- VIPER Unit
- Sex Crimes Unit
- Narcotics Unit
- K-9 Demonstrations
- Bomb Squad
- Dispatch and Jail Tours
- Domestic Violence Unit
- Crime Scene Unit
- CPO and Homeless Outreach
Register NOW for the EPD’s Spring Community Academy
Anyone 15 years of age or older is welcome to attend the Academy for free, however those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. There aren’t many spots left, and they should fill up quickly.
