Keith Urban Reveals a Life-Altering Moment He Had at 13 Years Old

Keith Urban was a typical adolescent at the age of 13. The little blond high school student wouldn’t experience the spotlight until late that year, but it wasn’t good for him.

In a recent installment of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Urban shares a story from his early years that fundamentally altered the course of his life.

“They were doing a production ofOliver, and they were like, ‘We need a little blond-haired kid who can sing,'” he recalls.

They didn’t have many choices, he quips, so the singer of “Messed Up as Me” got the part.

“I can’t act for sh–, but I can sing, so I got the gig,” he claims.

“They did this picture of me holding the little bowl, and they stuck it on a little badge or pin thing and handed them out to all the kids in school,” he recounts. “It was like my first taste of fame.”

He recalls how difficult it was for him to go from middle school to high school, but as a young freshman, playing Oliver in the school production of Oliver made him instantly popular.

However, he claims that reality quickly returned.

“About a week after the musical finished, it was right back to sh– zero again and I went, ‘I got it, okay, I see, I got it.'”

As Urban acknowledges, it was “an amazing lesson to learn at 13 that this is all bullsh– and don’t buy into it.”

In other words, don’t let celebrity define your value; it’s only a fad. Nevertheless, when the celebrity starts his recently revealed High and Alive World Tour, fans will be demanding to see him.
