Thirteen puppies were discovered by law enforcement personnel on the side of the road on Sunday, July 14. KAKE, a local affiliate of ABC News, reports that the discovery was made in Garden City, close to the intersection of 9th Street and Maple Street, at approximately 9:30 in the morning.
Over on Facebook, the Garden City Police Department shared information on the rescue operation in the hopes of reuniting the puppies with their respective families.
“PUPPY LOVE: Officers found this sweet litter of puppies near 9th and Maple Streets (THIRTEEN of them),” according to the initial update.
“We made them junior ‘paw-tners’ and showered them with love and attention before taking them to the animal shelter,” the police agency said on social media. “Thank you for your compassion and consideration.” “Fingers crossed they are reunited with their family(s) soon!”
PEOPLE was informed by the Garden City Police Department that the dogs were “hot” when they were discovered because to the extremely high temperatures that prevailed in the region (AccuWeather reports that the temperatures reached 97 degrees).
“Other than being hot when we found them, they were sweet as can be and appear to be in good health,” the police department said in an email statement to PEOPLE. The statement also continued by saying that “temperatures were expected to be in the low triple-digits” on the day of the rescue.
The 13 canines are being investigated by the Garden City Police Department to determine whether or not they were abandoned.
“Officers made sure to shower them with extra attention before surrendering them to the Finney County Humane Society for further care,” the department stated in its statement. “The Finney County Humane Society is responsible for treating them.” “The thirteen puppies weigh 6-8 pounds each.”
In an additional effort to determine who the puppies belong to, the Finney County Humane Society posted photographs and descriptions of the puppies on its Facebook page.
Once again, a dog was rescued from terrible weather in July. An officer with the Tennessee Highway Patrol saw a dog lying on the side of the road in Kingsport, Tennessee, on July 5th, while the city was experiencing a significant amount of precipitation.
