Jailhouse Turned Luxury B&B Ranks as Illinois’ Best Stay

Once a county jail, the historic Jail Hill Inn in Galena, Illinois, has been transformed into one of the state s best-rated bed and breakfasts.
Built in 1878 to replace the previous jail that had burned down, this solid stone building cost $16,000 and served its original purpose for nearly a century. After closing in 1977, it sat vacant for over 25 years, with several failed restoration attempts that left it slowly deteriorating.

The six roomy suites at Jail Hill Inn now occupy one whole floor. The luxurious king beds, spa-like bathrooms with soaking tubs, and cozy sitting areas in each suite create a sophisticated and tranquil setting.

The Jail Hill Inn is conveniently located close to Galena’s quaint downtown, offering quick access to neighborhood stores, historical landmarks, and picturesque vistas.
