Illinois City Introduces Magnificent Anthony Bourdain Mural

Even if Anthony Bourdain’s narrative is depressing, I don’t think it’s appropriate to focus on it, despite how difficult it may be.

Anthony Bourdain

As host of CNN’s Parts Unknown, Bourdain introduced us to some of the most unique cuisines in the world and brought us all on a fantastic culinary adventure throughout the globe. He sampled everything his guests prepared and generally enjoyed it without fear.

Not surprisingly, Bourdain broke bread with Anderson Cooper in 2018 and said that his trip to Hong Kong was the high point of his career.

The terrible news that Anthony Bourdain had committed suicide while traveling to Germany was released one week to the day after that interview was published. It would be an understatement to say we were all in awe. I watched a lot of Parts Unknown, and I never would have realized that he was so deeply depressed. However, who can truly know what goes on behind the walls that so many people erect to keep out intruding eyes and minds? Once more, his tale saddens me greatly, yet his journeys filled us all with astonishment and happiness.

The Anthony Bourdain Mural

In Marion, Illinois, a mural honoring the late novelist, chef, and global traveler was unveiled earlier this week:

People in the comment section are questioning why Bourdain now has this homage in downtown Marion, and in case you were wondering, he was a native New Yorker. The mural’s purpose is straightforward, though: it is “a testament to Bourdain’s legacy as a storyteller and adventurer who brought cultures together through food.” That’s plenty in my opinion.
