You’re running out of time if you haven’t received your REAL ID yet.
WHY DO I NEED A REAL ID?
Getting a REAL ID is not necessary for regular driving, but it is a needed if you want to board a commercial airline in the United States, enter a military installation, or visit any other federal site that demands identification.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said last week that enforcement will start in a few months after issuing the final REAL ID advice. To perform the aforementioned tasks, you will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license as of May 7, 2025.
This is the offer. For the past 20 years, REAL IDs have been a work in progress. The REAL ID Act was really passed by Congress in 2005. The act was passed to improve security standards and was a direct reaction to the September 11th attacks.
Finally, the improved standards will be implemented and enforced this year.

You can go to a Driver Licensing Regional Office to get your REAL ID. Throughout the Commonwealth, there are more than thirty of these offices. For instance, our regional headquarters is located just outside the city boundaries of Owensboro, where I currently reside. It is situated within the Daviess County Operations Center at 2620 Kentucky Highway 81.
