When I write about abandoned properties, they usually include a notice about being cautious (naturally) and avoiding legal problems by getting permission.
The first half is still the same, but there is good news about the second section, which is about an ancient, closed amusement park in Indiana. I can’t express how strongly this resonates with me; it’s now a part of Charlestown State Park, and the “door” is open and waiting for you.
Abandoned Indiana Amusement Park Is There for the Hiking
I’m not sure whether anyone else feels this way, but I find abandoned or deserted theme parks and amusement parks to be really fascinating due to their eerie atmosphere. That condition is undoubtedly met by those that haven’t had a visitor in decades or more. However, those that are simply shuttered in the off-season also do so. One that springs to mind is Holiday World. Even though I know I can’t, I’ve always wanted to walk through it when it’s closed.
Rose Island Amusement Park, however, is a another matter. If you can manage the level of difficulty the trail offers, it’s a part of your hiking experience in Charlestown State Park. However, it appears to be worth the work, guy.
Rose Island Amusement Park: A Little History
The amusement park on the Ohio River’s Rose Island peninsula was a popular destination in its prime. Visitors would stay in a hotel or one of the summer cottages, and they would come on day outings. During the Roaring Twenties, Charlestown was experiencing prosperity. But after the devastating 1937 flood, the “roar” ceased. The park closed and was abandoned as a result of the irreparable damage.
Rose Island is open to the public, unlike the majority of deserted parks that remain. If I were you, I would take advantage of this rare opportunity.
