Ashley McBryde hasn’t always been a staunch supporter of classic country music. With the publication of her theatrical collaborations project, Lindeville, she even attempted a concept album. She has also dabbled with rock guitars and vocal solos with a metal influence.
However, nobody is doubting McBryde’s credentials as a songwriter. She is now beginning her second musical journey with a ballad that focuses even more on her heritage.
“Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs,” McBryde’s most recent release, was inspired by her desire to return to more innocent times. She shared that reminiscence with Chris Harris and Patrick Savage, who co-wrote the song.
“All of us have felt as though something has been lacking over the past few years. In a statement, McBryde said, “I first saw it in myself and then in the majority of people I encountered.”
She was “starving to reconnect” with her core values when she penned the song. “Sometimes that comes as our sense of justice and duty, maybe for some of us it’s work ethic, for some of us it’s a sense of community,” she continues.
However, that hazy image of long-lost soothing ideals became a cowboy when she entered the writing room. According to McBryde, some of the qualities she identifies with cowboys are kindness, toughness, compassion, and authenticity. These qualities serve as potent reminders of the fundamental principles that enable her to remain true to herself.
The Devil I Know, McBryde’s most recent full-length album, was released in 2023. She is now preparing for her upcoming tour with Cody Johnson in 2025.
Lyrics to “Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs” by Ashley McBryde:
The horse I was riding was sent to pasture. And they will eventually place me there as well. They substituted overpriced actors for our heroes. Who is incapable of even filling their boots?
There is no wild out west, yet I would love to ride into the sunset. Not a high enough lonely place or a prairie to wander To get sufficiently far away The number of cowboy tunes is insufficient.
A few of us are still attempting to circle the wagons. However, we’re barely holding our own. Because we don’t have any flashy tin badges or firearms. And in this place, we are not the law.
There isn’t much wild in the west, yet I would want to ride into the sunset. Not a high enough lonely place or a prairie to wander To get sufficiently far away The number of cowboy tunes is insufficient.
Yes, I would want to ride into the sunset, but the west isn’t wild. Not a high enough lonely place or a prairie to wander To go far enough A sufficient number of cowboy songs are lacking.
