Heavy Rain Headed to the Tristate

Back-to-back winter storms have hit western Kentucky and southern Indiana in the past several weeks; one produced significant snow, and the other brought a mix of snow and ice. After that, we fought through a blast of Arctic air that caused wind chills to drop below freezing. It was quite cold last week. Fortunately, we’ve warmed up this week, with high temps that are almost 50 degrees and plenty of sunshine. But there is a price for that improvement, and on Thursday we will begin to pay it.

A low pressure storm that could bring heavy rain to the Tristate by the end of the week is being tracked by the National Weather Service Paducahis. How much rainfall can we expect? Well, possibly quite a bit, depending on where you reside along the Ohio River.

HEAVY RAINFALL FORECAST ALONG THE OHIO RIVER

According to the National Weather Service, “On average, one and a half to two and a half inches of rainfall is forecast Wednesday night through Friday, with the wettest period Thursday afternoon-evening.”

This is the rainfall forecast graph that was most recently released. That orange ring might get quite wet.

Observe that the graph indicates that three-inch increments may be attainable locally. Parts of southeast Missouri are probably going to be impacted if that happens.

IS IT GOING TO BE SUNNY THIS WEEKEND?

On the plus side, the prediction indicates that the heavy rains should end before the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday appear to be fantastic. We anticipate sunshine and a high in the lower 50s on Saturday. Sunday appears even more magnificent and wonderful. More sunshine and a high in the lower 60s are forecast for Sunday!
