GRABC Offers Free Income Tax Preparation Assistance

For individuals who qualify, the Green River Asset Building Coalition is once again providing free tax preparation help in Owensboro and the surrounding regions throughout tax season. Actually, on Saturday, January 25th of this year, GRABC is scheduled to launch those services.

Families earning less than $70,000 annually are eligible for the FREE program, according to Teresa Thomas, Executive Director of GRABC. One or more of the following requirements must be met in order to be eligible for this program: poor to moderate income, disability, senior citizen status, or limited English proficiency.

If you are eligible, you can schedule an appointment or just stop by the GRABC’s Owensboro office.

A list of the documents you’ll need to prepare your taxes is provided.

1) A photo ID for both you and your spouse is necessary.

2) Individual Tax ID numbers or Social Security cards for each person listed on your tax return.

3) You need to present that letter to the tax site if you have an Identity Protection Pin.

4) Proof of income (W2s, 1099s, unemployment, Social Security, maintenance or alimony, interest, stock sales, cash income, school grants, etc.).

5) Records for Deductions (self-employment, medical costs, charitable contributions, student loan interest, mortgage interest, property tax, alimony payments, etc.)

6) Tax Credit documentation, such as receipts for energy-efficient home improvements, proof of tuition costs, and receipts for child and dependent care.

7) Statement of Health Insurance (1095-A needed if insurance was acquired via Kynect.ky.gov or Healthcare.gov)

8) If available, the income tax return from the previous year.

9) Direct Deposit accompanied by proof of personal bank account information, including routing numbers.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is available in Owensboro, Kentucky at 1741 Scherm Road.

Walk-in hours are Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Every time is in CST.
