The Famous Polar Dome Has Returned To Illinois
Santa’s Village was one of my favorite summers destinations as a child. It is a tiny amusement park with a Christmas theme located in East Dundee. I would go there with my pals and have a great time. When my daughter was younger, I even took her there.

An ice rink in the center of the park is one feature of Santa’s Village that I remember clearly. I recall going to some of my cousin’s hockey games to watch him play. It was also a lot of fun.
The Polar Dome, a well-known structure in the skating community, was the name of that ice rink. In the first place, it was the biggest air-supported dome stadium at the time and was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Chicago Blackhawks were known to use the Polar Dome as their practice facility. The national Olympic speed skating competition, which was broadcast on ABC’s Wide World of Sports, was also held at the building.
Regretfully, Santa’s Village closed its doors in 2005. At that time, the Polar Dome was also closed. Beginning in 2007, a wide range of companies rented the space for purposes unrelated to skating.
The Polar Dome
In 2010, Santa’s Village reopened under new management. They had no influence over the Polar Dome because it was subject to a different arrangement. Last year, it was finally made available, and the park took it over. The ice rink was recently reopened and restored to its former splendor, offering a variety of public skating programs.
