Attend as many events as you can to hear from a published author. At the very least, the insights into their work are fascinating, and at the best, they are incredibly motivating. In Owensboro, such an opportunity will soon arise.
Author Scott Longert to Speak at Daviess County Public Library
I’ve never met Scott H. Longert, but my dad was the biggest baseball enthusiast I’ve ever known. And a man who would watch any baseball game at any moment, no matter who was playing, would be a formidable obstacle for Longert to overcome. Nevertheless, he is a baseball novelist, and even Dad would submit to his expertise and find stories of his adventures fascinating.
Longert, who was born in western Kentucky, has worked in Ohio for the majority of his career. He received his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and his master’s degree from Cleveland State University. Here, Longert, a historian for the Cleveland Indians (now the Guardians), talks with the BCSN podcast about his 2019 book, Bad Boys, Bad Times: The Cleveland Indians and Baseball in the Prewar Years, 1937 1941:
Longert’s Latest Is About Beaver Dam KY Native Ray Chapman
He will be speaking about his most recent book, Love and Loss: The Short Life of Ray Chapman, about the early 20th-century Cleveland Indians shortstop who is still the only player in Major League Baseball history to die from an injury sustained during a game, on January 11 at the Daviess County Public Library. Chapman, who was born in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, died in 1920 at the age of just 29.
