Ashley McBryde is keeping information about her performance under wraps, but she will be one of the many performers to take the 2024 CMA Awards stage on Wednesday night (November 20).
Taste of Country spoke with McBryde ahead of the show (ABC, 8 PM ET), and she provided some further details about what fans may anticipate from her appearance.
For one stripped-back, bare-bones performance, it will just be her and a guitar.
She explains, “It’s to respect a song and someone who deserves to be recognized. “It should be done with just one person and their guitar.”
Take note of the fact that she doesn’t name anyone. However, a unique performance has been hinted at to accompany George Strait’s acceptance of the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, which we already know would take place that evening.
We persisted in our questioning of McBryde in the hopes that she would reveal everything: Is she paying tribute to the King of Country?
“It might be,” she says slyly. “We are honoring George that night.”
It’s likely that her performance will be included in that homage. We are aware that she will not be singing one of her own songs, which she acknowledges adds to the pressure.
According to McBryde, “sometimes when you are performing at these award shows, it’s about how good this performer can perform.” How reverent can we be in this situation when we need to be reverent? It has to do with the song.
She is worried not just about the viewers of the nationally televised show, but also about her coworkers.
“Especially in a room full of people who do what you do for a living,” she says. “They are going to know if you did it wrong or if you make a choice that they re like, ‘That was self indulgent.'”
Despite being a seasoned performer, McBryde acknowledges that she feels pressure to strike a balance between incorporating her voice into the song and maintaining its purity.
“Plus,” she jokes, “I like to overthink things.” I will therefore be uncomfortably nervous the entire time.
Along with singing, the singer is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, joining Kelsea Ballerini, Lacey Wilson, Meghan Moroney, and Kacey Musgraves.
