At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé startled everyone by winning the greatest prize in country music.
On Sunday, February 2, the vocalist of “16 Carriages” won Best Country Album.
The singer stated, “I really was not expecting this,” as she struggled to find the right words to accept an honor she had not anticipated. Although her Cowboy Carter record was not included in the November CMA Awards, her work was valued by the broader Grammy audience.
As she spoke, her husband Jay-Z and her peers watched. “Sometimes I think ‘genre’ is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists,” she added. “I just wanna encourage people to do what they’re passionate about.”
Beyonc received the prize from Taylor Swift. Later, both will compete for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
Cowboy Carter was released in March 2024, marking Beyonc’s long-awaited entry into the country music scene, which her fans had been demanding since her 2016 appearance on the CMA Awards stage.
Despite the fact that its main single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” was a Billboard chart-topping smash hit, the project received little attention at 2024 country-specific awards shows.
Beyonc, the most successful woman in Grammy history, took up her first country medal for Best Country Duo/Group Performance earlier on Sunday night.
The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles is hosting the 2024 Grammy Awards. Fans can access on Paramount+ or watch on CBS.
