Dolly Parton Once Stayed at The Princeton, Indiana Holiday Inn

The Holiday Inn in Princeton, Indiana was a well-liked destination for residents, tourists, and even celebrities in the 1980s and 1990s.

The stench of chorine hit me square in the face as soon as I entered the Princeton Holiday Inn’s atrium. I was thrilled to see the boat and fervently hoped it had monkeys (as at Mesker Park Zoo). There was a live music venue and a restaurant.

Long Time Coming

This enormous hotel has not fared well with time. Although its name has changed over the years, it has never undergone any significant remodeling. The Express Inn most recently accommodated seasonal workers as there are more new hotels in town.

Since then, the property has been dismantled. There will soon be a new Hucks Food & Fuel there.

Saying Goodbye to The Princeton Belle

For a hotel in the 1980s, the enormous paddle boat and water feature were very unusual features. The paddle had a soothing sound and truly worked.

Hello Dolly!

I’ve heard rumors of several famous people visiting Princeton and staying at the Holiday Inn. Dolly Parton remained in Princeton, as did the Oakridge Boys and Loretta Lynn. I must share my friend’s experience meeting Dolly, as told by her.
