Indiana’s Tasty Claim to Fame Shattered in U.S. Virgin Islands

The record for the largest calzone in the world was broken in 2014 by a restaurant in Indiana. Ten years later, though, a new grand champion has replaced it.

One of my favorite foods ever is calzones. They are easy to make, tasty, and completely customisable. While there are many excellent restaurants in the tri-state that offer delicious calzones, it’s safe to say that none compare to the one that was developed in 2014 by a restaurant in Middlebury, Indiana. Inside the dough were cheese, pepperoni, and a unique sauce. It smashed a huge World Record and was probably wonderful.

Rulli s Italian Restaurant s World Record

That enormous calzone was 23 feet 7 inches by 2 feet 4 inches and weighted 212.7 pounds. Rulli’s Italian Restaurant, which has been servicing Elkhart County since 1987, created it by hand. It earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records at the time because it was the biggest calzone ever created. But that calzone was overthrown by a far bigger one in August 2024.

The World’s Largest Calzone Gets Even Bigger

Regretfully for Rulli’s Italian Restaurant, Caf Amici and Sweet Hospitality VI, situated in Charlotte Amalie, Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, currently holds the record for the largest calzone in the world. At 468 lb 11 oz, this enormous pizza pocket was more than twice as heavy as the previous record holder. Officially, it was finished on August 11, 2024.

Following completion, the calzone was divided into $10 pieces and sold to attendees, with all earnings going to the Humane Society, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. When the money raised goes to a worthy cause, it’s difficult to be upset about a Hoosier restaurant losing its world record, no matter how sad it is. But maybe there’s still hope for Rulli’s Italian Restaurant?
