Over the years, I’ve eaten lunch, dinner, and even breakfast in a few dive pubs. Almost none of them have been let down by the cuisine. My favorite was Bardog Tavern, which I discovered earlier this year when in Memphis, Tennessee. I happened onto the restaurant while I was wandering around downtown Memphis in search of a breakfast spot. Some people were already having beverages at the bar at eight in the morning. As I savored one of the greatest breakfast plates I had ever had, I stuck with coffee.

I find it easy to look past the neon signs, frayed bar chairs, and smoke-stained glass in search of delicious food, even though some people might be hesitant to embrace this culinary legacy. After all, the United States is home to a plethora of fantastic dive pubs with genuinely amazing menu items. In fact, three Indiana dive bars were among the 120 finest in the country for cuisine, according to a recent survey by Geek Nexushas.
The Dugout Bar Indianapolis, Indiana
At number 58 on the list, the first dive bar from Indiana is listed. It is located at 621 Virginia Ave. in Indianapolis and is known as The Dugout Bar. Nick Baxter and Layton John are the current owners of the tavern, which has been there since the early 1950s. Pizza, quesadillas, BBQ pulled pork, and chicken wings are all on the menu.
The Whistle Stop Inn Indianapolis, Indiana
A little farther down the list, at No. 98 out of 120, is the second Indiana location. The Whistle Stop Inn is situated at 375 S. Illinois St. in Indianapolis. The restaurant offers a very appealing menu with dishes including deep-fried Pepper Jack cheese cubes, small corn dogs, chicken wings, fries, and fresh deep-fried pizza rolls. They “crush” the finger food game, according to their website.
Five Star Dive Bar Elkhart, Indiana
Ranking No. 108 out of 120, the last dive bar in Indiana is among the best in the country. The Five Star Dive Bar, which is situated at 526 S Main St. in Elkhart, is well-known for its relaxed trivia evenings, comedy events, and live music. It is also well-known for its wide selection of delicious foods, including as tacos, fries, burgers, mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, and more. The very thought of it makes me hungry.
