Package thieves, commonly referred to as “Porch Pirates” (which gives them a more sexy and daring appearance than “Dirt Bags Who Steal Other People’s Stuff”), are undoubtedly eyeing your front porch as well. According to Rockford’s Better Business Bureau, delivery trucks are being actually followed by package thieves.
Let’s examine the two days when package thieves are most likely to target us:
Porch Pirates Love Doing Their Thing On Mondays And Tuesdays, And This Isn’t Just About The Package Thieves Who Swipe Stuff During The Holidays–It Goes On All Year, Too
Regretfully, during the months that aren’t holidays, theft does occur. Take a look at some of these figures (provided by Finder.com):
- Roughly 14% of Americans say they ve been victims of package theft in the last 12 months
- This equates to about 35.5 million Americans and an average value of $156.82 being reported stolen

- Of the 14% who have had packages stolen, about 39% said they only had one package stolen, roughly 36% said that they had at least two packages taken
So Which Two Days Are The Worst Days For Porch Piracy?
More than 1,000 respondents were asked about their prior experiences with package theft and online purchasing in a survey conducted by the smart home startup Vivint. The survey asked a number of topics, such as the most frequently stolen things, the most frequently stolen packages, the most frequently stolen packages on certain days, and the carrier with the highest rate of stolen goods.
Porch pirates actively remove items from front porches on Mondays and Tuesdays, followed by Wednesdays, Sundays, Fridays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The most likely times for a porch pirate to visit were in the afternoon, evening, and morning.
