Official approval has been given for Morgan Wallen to put up a 20-foot banner with his name outside his bar in downtown Nashville.
According to WSMV 4, the sign was approved by the city’s Metro Council on Tuesday, December 17. This decision overturns the council’s May 2024 decision that prohibited the sign from being erected outside Morgan Wallen’s This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen.
Because of Wallen’s past scandal and legal issues, some council members initially opposed the sign, citing their fear that a sign with his name on it would send the wrong message. Specifically, Metro Council member Delishia Porterfield pointed to Wallen’s 2021racist slur scandal, as well as thecharges he faced in 2024 for throwing a chairoff ofEric Church’s downtown Nashville bar.
At the time, Porterfield thought, “I don’t want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who is throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs.”

Wallen’s chair-throwing case, which was open during the first ruling on the sign issue, was resolved in the middle of this month when the singer entered a guilty plea after a plea agreement dropped his felony charges to two misdemeanors.
In connection with the case, he was sentenced to two years of probation and seven days in an alcohol education facility.
Days before the Metro Council voted to authorize Wallen’s bar sign outside This Bar, his legal case came to a close.

Since the end of his One Night at a Time Tour in late 2024, Wallen has maintained a comparatively low profile. Even though he won Entertainer of the Year at the November CMAs, he hasn’t been in the spotlight much. He has, however, sent a few messages to his followers, one of which was an open discussion of the highs and lows of his career thus far.
