The study evaluated elements essential to rest and wellbeing in 500 major U.S. cities. These eight categories’ metrics were examined: Work-related stressors, environmental stressors, social stressors, mental health enhancers, physical well-being, financial well-being, and recreational opportunities.
Lawnstarter claims that each city’s ranking in terms of leisure and quality of life was based on its overall score, which was calculated from these elements.
California Cities Lead in Relaxation and Wellness
With 86 Golden State communities in the top half of the rating, California cities dominate the top rankings for the most laid-back lifestyle. With 632 yoga studios, Los Angeles (ranked 146th) is notable for encouraging both mental and physical well-being.
On the other extreme, communities in Michigan and Ohio, such as Detroit (ranked No. 499) and Dayton (ranked No. 498), confront formidable obstacles.
Detroit suffers from high blood pressure and stroke rates, while Dayton reported the highest rates of drug overdose and mental suffering. Flint, Michigan, has the lowest rates of poverty, smoking, and insufficient sleep.
Many Midwest Cities Struggle to Relax, But Not Some Illinois Towns
A hamlet in the Top 5 was among the few Illinois cities that placed highly on the list.
Naperville received great marks for both financial and mental well-being, placing it as the fifth most relaxed city in the United States.
Despite the worry of the Bears relocating into their area, Arlington Heights was ranked as the 40th Most Relaxed American community.
With a strong Mental Well-Being and Mental Health Boosters Rank, Evanston, Illinois, also made the list at number 43.
